Why don’t the books and app show values for sugar content?
The reason we have included values for carbs and not 'of which sugars' is because it’s the total amount of carbohydrate (not just the sugars) that has the greatest effect on blood glucose levels.
People with type 1 diabetes are taught to count carbs (not only sugars) as this is what determines how much insulin to take.
For type 2 diabetes, having an awareness of carbs (not just sugars) helps to understand blood glucose levels (i.e. the more carbs you eat, the greater the effect on blood glucose).
